Reaming shells are designed to be placed behind the bit to ensure hole gauge and to help core barrel stabilization. Improving drill string stability and protecting lower drill string from excessive wear, and ensures that when a new core bit is inserted into a continuing bore hole there is a good chance of reaching the bottom of the bore hole without reaming.
