Why wireline core drilling is booming
Gold exploration budgets reached $6.2 billion in 2025 — up 19% and roughly half of the global $12.4 billion exploration spend. Wireline coring is the fastest-growing drilling segment at a 7.7% CAGR (2025 –2029). Deeper holes, tighter schedules and costly downtime make the wireline drill rod the component buyers cannot afford to get wrong.
What is a wireline drill rod?
The hollow, threaded alloy steel pipe that powers wireline core drilling. Rotation and thrust pass through the rod string to the diamond bit, while the core sample collects in an inner tube retrieved by an overshot on a wireline cable — no full tripping of the string. At depths over 500 m, wireline coring runs 3 –5× faster than conventional coring .

Q1. NQ vs HQ — which size? NQ (core 47.6 mm) is the most widely used standard and fastest; HQ (core 63.5 mm) gives a ~33% larger core for better assay confidence at lower speed.
Q2. What is "thin wall" (BTW/NTW/HTW)? Thin kerf rods recover a larger core through the same hole — NTW gains ~28% over NQ — ideal for slim hole and portable rigs.
